Leo Vroegindeweij and his site-specific installation at Dep Art Out’s trullo, Puglia, Italy. NLMagazine/Amsterdam, Culture & Art - With artist Leo Vroegindeweij and gallerist Antonio Addamiano (of Dep Art, Milan)

The talk will explore Leo Vroegindeweij’s recent ephemeral project hosted by Dep Art Out in Ceglie Messapica, Puglia, an off-site space run by Antonio Addamiano, founder of Dep Art Gallery, Milan. Vroegindeweij's sculpture, installed inside Dep Art Out's trullo—a traditional Puglian stone structure—engaged with the building’s history and natural materials. The artist will discuss how this project connects with his broader practice, from early sculptures to site-specific installations in historical locations.

Please join us to celebrate PAN Amsterdam and our exhibition Along the Road / In Rearview with Leo Vroegindeweij and Ruth Meijer, centering on a unique journey—of an artist and sculpture traveling from an event at Dep Art Out in Puglia to a gallery show at The Merchant House (TMH) in Amsterdam.

Along the Road with Leo Vroegindeweij and
Ruth Meijer — In Rearview
Through 23 November

This exhibition takes its inspiration (point of departure) from Vroegindeweij and Meijer’s journey this past summer: a road trip to transport Leo Vroegindeweij's work to Puglia, where his sculpture was placed—for a single-night, site-specific installation hosted by Dep Art Out—within the architecture of a Puglian trullo. Now taking center stage at TMH in Amsterdam (Vroegindeweij’s home base), the sculpture is both the same and something else.

Enter the work of Ruth Meijer: paintings with their own literal clarity. These roadside snapshots in vibrant acrylics focus primarily on the humble backs of trucks and other passing views. A wry take on the everyday sublime, perhaps in the spirit of Art Brut—they capture what trails us, what hauls the weight, and what is usually overlooked, only to amaze when rediscovered.
